Research on Internet Technologies is conducted in several areas such as Semantic Web, Web Ontology Languages as well as Web Services.
Ongoing research at the Institute of Computer Engineering focus on a new collaborative and self-learning multi-agent architecture to manage and infer heterogeneous sources of Semantic Information Repositories of variable scales. In addition, mediation between Semantic Web Agents regarding trust and proof as well as provenance of the content will be considered. Furthermost, these concepts will be applied in constructing Intelligent Tutors in Virtual Learning Environments.
The Semantic Web vision was conceived by Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web. The World Wide Web changed the way people communicate, seek information and entertainment dramatically. Calling it the next step in Web evolution, Berners-Lee defines the Semantic Web as “a web of data that can be processed directly and indirectly by machines.” The Semantic Web is an extension of the current web in which information is given well-defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in co-operation.
